Picture Postcard: Landscapes from Calfornia’s State Parks
Students will research places around the state, investigating California’s different regions and landforms. Then they’ll paint a scene from one of our state parks that will be turned into a postcard. They’ll write a friendly letter on the back, address the postcard and mail it. 3 sessions.
“The Lorax”
We’ll read aloud my favorite Dr. Seuss book, “The Lorax,” and discuss the significance of its message about natural resources. Then each student will make a wire sculpture truffula tree and a small clay brown barbaloot. 2 sessions.
Beginning Printmaking
Students will design a picture with an African animal theme, then transfer their image to a styrofoam plate. They will use tempera paint to print the image multiple times. Students will get an overview of this history of printing and look at different styles and methods used througout history. 2 sessions.
Ecosystem Poster

The poster will include written information as well as a painting or drawing of animals in their habitats. Students will learn basic graphic design skills as well as tricks for drawing animals. 3 sessions.
California’s Art Heritage
Our state has a wealth of artists of all types - from Walt Disney to Wayne Thiebaud. We’ll look at California's history through the eyes of its artists, then create a painting of something that is unique to our state. 2 sessions.
